Just what does it mean, really?
Soul mates. We often hear this word a lot. There are times when we wonder where they are. Sometimes, we ask ourselves, will we ever find them? Will we even meet them in this lifetime?
There are cases when the term is interchanged with life partners. Although both words belong in a similar wavelength, they actually have different meanings. Soul mate refers to “someone who is aligned with your soul and is sent to challenge, awaken and stir different parts of you in order for your soul to transcend to a higher level of consciousness and awareness.” On the other hand, a life partner is “a companion, a friend, a stable and secure individual who you can lean on, trust and depend on to help you through life.”
Most of us wind up with life partners. All of us have a subconscious fear of being alone—imagine having to grow old and die lonely, with no one by our side. And in that fear, we sometimes lose ourselves just to feel all right, ending up having to settle with the wrong person.
A soul mate isn’t just someone you “settle down” with; your feelings toward that person can’t be simply put into words. Déjà vu moments of you two being together at another time occur. You can’t imagine life without him/her. You two simply get each other. The way you look at each other while talking is thanks to the natural, deep connection between you. Simply put, you two have an intense relationship going on.
Soul mates aren’t exclusive to romantic partners; sometimes, it may even be one of your friends or siblings. Many of us spend a lot of time looking for that one person without actually knowing what we really want in them. Before establishing a connection a soul mate, you must align with your true self first; that way, natural vibrations will come in upon meeting the person. Not all soul mates get a happy ending—some relationships just don’t last forever. Despite that, both of you know that the love still remains.
It is possible that your life partners are actually your soul mates. You and your partner can develop a much-deeper soul connection, depending on how you two handle your relationship. Only you can tell if that person is the other half of your heart—you just know it.
